Choose wisely, as schedule changes typically are not made unless a student has failed a prerequisite class at the end of the school term.
VIRTUAL VIRGINIA COURSES
The Virtual Virginia Student Participation Agreement (below) must be signed by student and parent and then submitted to the School Counseling Office along with the Early College Scholars Agreement (below), in order to initiate the application for Virtual Virginia coursework. Most of these courses are Advanced Placement and students should consider very carefully before they request one of these classes. Classes may be offered in either a one-semester block format or as a yearlong class. You should read over the course descriptions on theVirtual Virginia website to ensure that you have completed the prerequisite coursework. The format of your class will depend upon the number of Virtual classes you request and the other courses you request. There is NO GUARANTEE that a student will get into these classes. Students from across Virginia also are attempting to enroll and space is limited. View the Virtual Virginia Student and Parent/Guardian Handbook here: Virtual Virginia Handbook
To select any course through Virtual Virginia, a student must have the following:
*COMPLETED THE EARLY COLLEGE SCHOLAR AGREEMENT *COMPLETED THE VIRTUAL VIRGINIA PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT *BE WORKING ON EARNING AN ADVANCED STUDIES DIPLOMA *BE WORKING TO EARN AT LEAST 15 TRANSFERABLE COLLEGE CREDITS *HAVE A MINIMUM CUMULATIVE 3.0 GPA
VIRTUAL VIRGINIA PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT - This agreement must be completed and submitted to the School Counseling Office, along with the Early College Scholars Agreement (below), in order to apply for enrollment consideration in a Virtual Virginia course.
EARLY COLLEGE SCHOLARS AGREEMENT - This contract indicates that you are working on earning an Advanced Studies Diploma, will maintain a 3.0- cumulative GPA and earn 15 transferable college credits through taking AP exams and earning a grade of 3 or higher and /or taking Dual Enrollment Transferable Credit classes. This contract must be signed by the student and parent and submitted to the school counselor to be considered for Early College Scholar recognition.
EARLY GRADUATION REQUEST - A student who is ahead on credits and would like to graduate from high school in three years may submit this form after the 10th grade year. The student would be considered a Junior ( 11th grade) for the first semester or until such time as he or she has completed English 11 and the required minimum SOL test Verified Credits. If, after the end of the first semester, the student meets all of the criteria to be a senior and will graduate in May of that year, the student will be promoted to grade level 12 and earn all senior privileges.
WORK RELEASE - A senior may submit a request to leave school early in the day to go to work. The student must be working during the hours that they are no in school at least 3 schools during each week. The release time will be based upon the time the student must report to work. Employment will be verified and if the student quits or looses their job, they will be expected to find employment within one week or will be expected to return to school. This form may not be submitted until Aug 1 for a work release during the first semester and Dec. 15th for a work release during the second semester. It is advisable that students select a full schedule of classes in case they do not have a job when the semester begins as entrance into classes after schedules are completed will require students to select classes on a space available basis.
INTERNSHIP APPLICATION - A senior may request to intern as an Athletic Trainer or Athletic Administrator at Fluvanna County High School. The commitment is for 140 hours, and students who successfully complete those hours may earn 1 credit and a Pass/Fail grade. This grade does not count in the student's GPA. The student intern must submit a month timesheet to their school counselor (click here for a blank timesheet).
